With great sadness and sense of loss that I report the passing of OMUG member, MUGTALK Editor and friend, Al Sypher.
After a brief stay in a local hospital, Al was sent home pending further tests Saturday April 17th. He was alone and expecting to be OK. He passed, apparently peacefully, after he went to bed that evening, before arising Sunday.
I personally felt like someone had kicked me in the gut when I received the news. I have had Al on my mind ever since. He was more than a friend. He was an excellent photographer and photo finisher. He was a great writer. He was devoted to OMUG and publishing the very high quality MUGTALK club magazine (It was so much more than a newsletter). He would spend much of a month researching articles to pass on to us in MUGTALK. I couldn’t even guess how many hours went into each issue.
Expert as he was, he was humble and helpful. He would assist his friends in anyway he could. He was among the first to arrive at OMUG meetings to help set up and among the last to leave making sure everything was put away properly. He was a gentleman.
All of OMUG will miss him. I know I will, I do already.
The photo is Al and his beloved wife, Eileen, of many years. She predeceased him in 2014. I suspect they are happy to be together again.
No service details are available. OMUG Members will be notified when they are available.
Respectfully Submitted N.C. Sizemore
